கேரளாவில் பயிற்சி கொடுத்த ஐயர்: ஆனால், கேரளாவில் 2000களில் நக்ஸல் தீவிரவாதிகளுக்கு, அதுவும் காடுகளில் “கொரில்லா சண்டை” பயிற்சி கொடுத்து வந்தாராம். கேரளாவில் நடந்த பயிற்சியில் ஃபிலிப்பைன்ஸ்லிருந்து கூட வந்து கற்றுக் கொண்டார்களாம். இது அனைத்துலக ரீதியில் நக்ஸல்கள் செயல்படுவதைக் காட்டுகிறது. அவரிடத்திலிருந்து நக்ஸல்களைப் பற்றிய குறும்புத்தகங்கள், நோட்டீஸ்கள், சிடிக்கள் முதலியவை பறிமுதல் செய்யப் பட்டன. தனது அரசு உத்தியோக வாழ்க்கையில் பல பெரிய கடத்தல்காரர்களைப் பிடித்து, கடத்தல் பொருட்களை பெருமளவில் பிடுத்துள்ளாராம். திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ளாமல் வாழ்க்கை நடத்திய இவர், அரசு வாழ்க்கையில் மிகவும் நேர்மையாக இருந்திருக்கிறார். இவர் ஒரு கலைக் குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர். இவரது தந்தையார் சிறந்த கர்நாடக வித்வான். மாமா வைஜெயந்திமாலாவிற்கு கதக்களியில் பயிற்சி அளித்துள்ளார்.
கேரளாவில் பயிற்சி பெற்ற ஜிஹாதிகள்[3]: கேரளா காடுகளில் ஜிஹாதிகளும் ஆயத பயிற்சி முதலியவைப் பெற்று காஷ்மீரத்திற்கு சென்றுள்ளார்கள். ஒருவேலை அந்த ஜிஹாதிகளுக்கும் ஐயர் பயிற்சி கொடுத்தாரா? பயிற்சியில் ஃபிலிப்பைன்ஸ்லிருந்து கூட வந்து கற்றுக் கொண்டார்கள், எனும்போது, ஜிஹாதிகள் கற்றுக் கொள்வதில் ஒன்றும் ஆச்சரியம் இல்லை. இந்த ஐயர், உண்மையான ஐயரா அல்லது டேவிட் கோல்மென் ஹெட்லி / சையது தாவூத் ஜிலானி போன்ற பெயரை வைத்துக் கொண்டு ஏமாற்றிவரும் பேர்வழிகளா?

Following the arrests of Avinash Kulkarni and Bharat Pawar Surat, approximately on April 22 and 23, Surat police arrested retired customs officer Vishwanath Vardharajan Iyer for suspected Naxal links[5]. The police say Iyer regularly visited Gujarat and was on good terms with Avinash Kulkarni. Iyer had taken voluntary retirement from the Customs Department in 1988 from Nagpur where he was last posted. The police claim that Iyer is one of the central committee members of CPIML (Janshakti). Allegedly, moreover, Vishwanath Vardharajan Iyer had provided guerilla warfare training in Gujarat and Kerala in 2000. The police are apparently probing Iyer’s links with the Philippines Communist Party, which is believed to have conducted a guerilla warfare training camp in Kerala; it is claimed that 30 persons from India, including two from Gujarat — Bharat Puwar and Sulat Puwar — had participated in this training. Singh said the Gujarat Police is in touch with their Kerala counterparts for more details. The police allege literature related to CPIML (Janshakti), in addition to incriminating CDs and DVDs, have been recovered. |

AHMEDABAD: The Surat police have arrested one more person for alleged links with the Naxalite movement in south Gujarat.
The police claimed that Vishwanath Varadarajan Iyer, a retired customs officer who made Nagpur the base for his alleged extremist activities, was a member of the Central Committee of the CPI (ML) Janshakti and was responsible for training left extremists in Kerala forests in 2000. The police said they recovered from him some documents including CPI (ML) literature and compact discs containing details of Naxalite activities.
The police, in their drive in south Gujarat, already made a number of arrests: Niranjan Mahapatra from Pandesara in Surat; K.N. Singh from Bhavnagar; Ramu Pawar from Mumbai; Avinash Kulkarni, Bharat Puwar and Silat Puwar from the Dangs; Maka Chaudhary from Mandvi; Jeram Goswami from Songadh; and Satyam Rao from Andhra Pradesh.
Voluntary organisations working for tribal welfare and human rights activists, however, say Kulkarni had nothing to do with Naxalism and that he had been working for the uplift of poor tribals for the past two decades or so.
Iyer’s arrest comes after the detention of tribal activists Bharat Puwar and Silat Puwar, who, the police said, had attended the training session he organised in Kerala. The police also claimed that during interrogation Iyer said trainers in the Kerala forests had come from the Philippines, revealing an international connection to the left extremist movement.
A.K. Singh, Inspector-General, south Gujarat range, said Iyer opted for voluntary retirement way back in 1988 when he was posted in Nagpur and made the Maharashtra city the base of his operations. He worked overground for some time and then went underground.
It is learnt Iyer hails from a family in Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu wedded to classical music.

Surat Surat police, which is probing the spread of Naxal influence in the state, has arrested Nagpur-based retired Customs Officer — Vishwanath Vardharajan Iyer (60) — for suspected Naxal links. According to the police, Iyer is among those who provided guerilla warfare training to a few from Gujarat in the jungles in Kerala, sometime in 2000.
The police are probing Iyer’s links with the Philippines Communist Party, which is believed to have conducted a guerilla warfare training camp in Kerala, in which 30 from India, including two from Gujarat — Bharat Puwar and Sulat Puwar — had reportedly participated.
The police said Iyer is one of the central committee members of CPI ML — Janshakti which is believed to have Naxal-Maoist links. His arrest follows that of two tribal activists from Dangs — Avinash Kulkarni and Bharat Puwar — who are now lodged in the Surat district jail.
A bachelor, residing with his sister, Iyer took voluntary retirement from the Customs Department in 1988 from Nagpur where he was last posted. He has a good service track record.
The police said Iyer belongs to Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu, and the family is known in the region for its strong classical music traditions.
Iyer’s father is a noted classical musician, while his uncle is known to have trained yesteryear film actor Vyjantimala in kathak, the police said. Iyer, according to the police, made his mark in the Customs Department by arresting big smugglers and recovering huge quantity of goods from them.
So far, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Surat police to probe Naxal links has arrested nine people and Iyer’s arrest follows their questioning.
The police said literature related to CPI ML — Janshakti, in
addition to incriminating CDs and DVDs have also been recovered.

While Indian Home Minister, P Chidambaram and his Pakistan Interior Minister, Rehman Malik smiled for photo-ops during a crucial meeting aimed at healing the strained Indo-Pak relationship, the media spotted that the Indian flag that was placed on the table was upside down.
The Indian flag faux pas added to the akwardness of the situation as the Indian and Pakistani leaders met to carry forward the Indo-Pak dialogue, hampered by terrorism and specifically the Mumbai terror attacks 2008.
However, Mr Chidambaram chose to play down the goof-up saying that the it was just a mistake and it should not be turned into an issue.

An alert Chidambaram spotted the error and brought it to the notice of Malik, who regretted the incident and asked it to be corrected.
“I detected the mistake and he (Malik) corrected the mistake. I told Malik about it and he was extremely regretful of that,” Chidambaram told reporters.
“I think it’s a minor mistake and I don’t think we should make much of it. The flag was put right…,” he said.
Reacting to the diplomatic faux paus by Pakistani hosts, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters that it could have been “avoided” if the officials were more “serious” and “alert”. “The incident could have been avoided if the Indian Embassy (officials) and other Pakistani organisers were more serious and alert,” he said.

Bangladeshi student Shahi Rafsanjani, who was arrested by the Hyderabad police for her alleged role in the twin blasts that rocked the city on August 25, was today brought to Vellore, where she studies, for investigation.
The 23-year-old woman is a student of English literature at Auxillium College at Katpadi, on the outskirts of Vellore, 120 km from here. She was staying at a rented house near the Gandhi Road mosque in Vellore with some of her relatives.
Shahi, the sister of Rizwan Gazhi, one of the prime suspects in the blasts case, had gone to Hyderabad on September 27 and was picked up by the police on September 1 for not possessing valid documents.
However, she told the police that she had left her documents at her home in Vellore and that she possessed a valid student visa till 2008.
The police said the Hyderabad police team brought her to Vellore today and went to the rented house where she was staying and examined her passport and registration documents related to her stay as a foreign national.
The police had nabbed her from a house that was rented by Gazhi in the Kishan Bagh area in the old city of Hyderabad. The police suspects that she had carried the RDX explosives to Hyderabad that was used in the explosions.
A police officer in Vellore said, “A team from Charminar police station in Hyderabad came here and also visited Auxillium College and enquired about the days she had been on leave since May. They examined her passport and found it to be in order.”
He said since all her papers were in order there could not be any case against her under the Foreigner’s Act.
The Hyderabad police has released sketches of four suspects, all Bangladeshi nationals suspected to be involved in the twin blasts. Among them are Shahi’s two brothers – Rizwan and 12-year-old Irfan. The other two are Hussaien, 18, and Masliuddin, 24.
After Shahi’s arrest in Hyderabad, the Tamil Nadu police began its own investigation and found that she had enrolled her name in the foreigner’s register maintained by the Vellore district superintendent’s office.
The Vellore police was also investigating her absence from the college on leave between May and August. While the twin explosions took place on August 25, the Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderabad occurred on May 18.
The college principal had told the police that during the summer vacation in May, Shahi had gone home to Bangladesh and in July had taken two days of leave. She had sought leave for five days from August 28. She had reached Hyderabad two days after the blasts.
The Hyderabad police team also found out that her father Jainal Abedin Gazhi had stayed with her for sometime as he underwent treatment at the Christian Medical College Hospital in Vellore.

Hyderabad: The city police have released photographs of two alleged suspects in the August 25 blasts.
The two men – Masilluddin (24) and Hussain (18) – are alleged to be associates of Rizwan Gazi, the Lumbini Park bomber.
Announcing this, ACP (Charminar Division) B Reddanna told reporters that the two are said to have stayed with Gazi at his house just before the blasts.
Both men are Bangladeshi immigrants and are believed to be still somewhere in Hyderabad.

The police are also looking for a 12-year-old boy Irfan, brother of Ghazi, studying in one of the madarsas in the city here, he said.
While Masiluddin left the city after Mecca Masjid blast on May 18, Hussain, said to be relative of Ghazi, left the city after twin blasts on August 25, he said.
Meanwhile, Ghazi’s sister Shahi Rafsanjani, who is now in police custody, is being interrogated. She was arrested last week in a raid for allegedly travelling without valid documents.
